The Row Collaboration

Fuller Marroquin spends a significant amount of time in Mexico with her family and has developed an ongoing interest in the country’s traditional crafts. This collaboration was inspired by the classic Piñas, clay forms originating from the state of Michoacán.

The pieces were developed in partnership with a local taller (workshop) of master artisans in Michoacán. The process begins with sourcing clay from nearby mountains during periods of specific humidity, which is then shaped by hand to produce distinct forms. Each piece is fired in an open-air kiln, allowed to cool over several days, then glazed and fired again.

The resulting objects are highly detailed and materially expressive, reflecting both the technical rigor of the process and the inherent qualities of the clay. Variations in form, texture, and finish emphasize the manual nature of production and allow each piece to function as both vessel and sculptural element.
